how do you set the fm stations
Set the selector knob on the far right of the receiver to BT/FM/USB/SD. Once you have done that, press the mode button to select FM, and then you can press the play pause button to scan all radio stations. Once you have done scanning you can now search using the NEXT and PREVIOUS buttons to locate the station you want to listen to but you can not assign your favorite station

Are the channels set up in left/right stereo or mono? More specifically, is it important to have channels 1 and 2 in the same room so you get both sides of the stereo?
It is set up as Left & Right MONO.
Not necessary to put Channel 1 & 2 in the same room. There are 2 terminals on Channel 1 that you can use to have 2 speakers in one room

It will work with 6 jbl control 1 pro 80 w speakers, and a sony active subwoofer. What can I add to the amplifier to give me more hi-fi sound? An audio mixer? An audio reamplifier? The PTA62BT.5 is actually built with a Preamp already. But if you wish to add a mixer, you may do so.
