I'm replacing the "10 speaker in my Cadillac DTS and was unable to find an OEM replacement so I purchased a PL1090BL speaker. Would appreciate any information such as wiring for best quality sound. Original speaker/Amp is 2 Ohm.
SInce its a DVC or Dual Voice Coil here are 2 types of connection that you can do.
How to connect a Dual Voice Coil Subwoofer
SERIES MODE
Connect a bare speaker wire into the positive terminal of the subwoofer going to the negative terminal on the other side.
Then 2 separate wires are needed, one for the negative and one for the positive.
These 2 wires will be going to the amplifier, take note that since it is in series mode, the impedance of the subwoofer will be 8 ohms.
PARALLEL MODE
You will be needing 2 positive wires when doing this connection. Tap 2 positive wires together the connect both of them to the positive terminal. Then one wire will be connected to the positive terminal of the subwoofer on the other side.
Again, 2 negative wires are needed. Then tap together and connect it to the negative terminal. One wire will be connected to the negative terminal of the subwoofer on the other side.
Take note that if you are making a parallel connection, the impedance will drop into 2 ohms, which technically the amp can't handle that particular impedance if for home use/set-up. So this connection is advice to car set/up.
The advantage of doing the parallel connection is that it is lowering the resistance on the power supply which makes the subwoofer provide a much better audio quality, rather than doing a series mode connection.
