Strip about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of the included speaker wire, twist the copper ends, then connect it directly to the speaker terminals. Match polarity: the striped/red-marked wire goes to the positive (+) terminal and the plain/black wire goes to the negative (-). If your PL4163BK has spring clips, press the tab, insert the wire, then release to lock it. If it has screw terminals, loosen, insert the wire, then tighten. Make sure the connection is firm and the bare wires aren’t touching each other.

what are the little rubber strips used for during installation?

Not sure about the Rubber strips as we don't see it except for the mounting hardware Speaker cable and the speakers

Is the (+) line the wide tab or the narrow tab?
