Is there anyway to adjust the spring on door

I purchased this product (PLDRCB1) on Amazon. The spring on the one I got is not strong enough to hold the cover open. Is that how it is designed? Is there a way to adjust it or is my unit defective. If so how do I get it replaced?

can this be easily installed on an existing Pyle installation in my boat?
