What would be the problem if the 5.1 Feature does not work in the HDMI mode? only the left front speaker has sound. By the way, the 5.1 feature works in the AM/FM tuner mode.
It may be the HDMI Cable that is defective

Since you didn't answer my question the first time,I'll ask again. Does the aux inputs decode 5.1 surround sound? My TV does output a 5.1 encoded signal on it's left & right audio output jacks (RCA jacks). My old surround sound unit decoded these signals and provided surround sound 5.1 just fine. Also I am using a HDMI cable from my blue ray player to the HDMI 1 input. Playing a blue ray disc know to be in 5.1, the "prologic" light does not come on. Same thing with my HDTV DVR on HDMI 2 input. Is this unit defective or what? I am about to pack this thing up and return it!
AV receivers should be able to decode surround signals through the left and right input chat channels

I watch TV using an off the air antenna. I have the audio out of the TV going to aux 1 on the PT588AB. I have the unit set to 5.1 audio. The "prologic" indicator does not light up and there is no center speaker audio. Doesn't this unit decode 5.1 on the aux inputs? There is not a HDMI output from the TV.
It is possible that the signal from the TV output is only stereo
