Ask a Question-
Mine will not install. When I screw it, the mounting mechanism does not lower. It just wants to continue going right and hits the edge without lowering. It’s an issue with 2 of the four I bought so far.
The mounting mechanism on the PDIC81RDSL uses a "dog-leg" locking tab system. When you turn the screw clockwise, the plastic tab is supposed to hit a physical plastic stop on the speaker frame. Once it hits that stop, it cannot turn right anymore, forcing the tab to travel downward along the screw threads to clamp onto your drywall.
If the tab is bypassing that stop, spinning completely to the right, and jamming against the outer edge of the speaker without lowering, it is almost always caused by one of two physical issues.
First, the plastic stop tab on the speaker housing might be molded too short, broken, or stripped out, allowing the dog-leg to simply jump right over it. Second, the long screw might be cross-threaded or binding up on plastic debris right at the pivot point, causing the entire arm to lock onto the screw thread and spin with it rather than letting the screw turn inside the arm.
To fix the units you have, take the speaker down and look closely at the back of the problematic screws. Back the screw out counter-clockwise until the plastic dog-leg tab swivels all the way back inward to its resting position. Check the small plastic ridge on the speaker frame that is supposed to catch the arm; if it is intact, manually thread the plastic tab up and down the screw a few times to clear out any tight factory threads or plastic burrs. If the plastic stop itself is entirely broken or stripped, the speaker frame is physically defective and you will need to exchange those two specific units for replacements.
